New Year, New Way of Thinking
OK, enough with the New Year’s resolutions. Let’s try something simple, like changing the way we think.
“A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.” (American psychologist and philosopher William James)
Much as we might like to believe our approach to listening and dialogue is driven by open-minded and thoughtful reflection….it just ain’t always so. Life has a way of reminding us of this in a variety of ways.
And maybe, just maybe, for this new year we should step back and entertain the possibility that what we believe we know can sometimes get in the way of discovering what we need to learn.
